No. 16 Yotes’ Season Ends in NCAA West Region Quarterfinals

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The CSUSB women's volleyball fell to No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday afternoon in the NCAA DII West Region Quarterfinals, ending the Yotes' 2022 season with a 20-7 overall record.
 
CSUSB took the first set against the No. 20 ranked Broncos by a score of 25-21, then dropped the second and third sets 25-19 and 25-21. The Yotes rebounded in the fourth set 25-19 to force a fifth and final set. The Broncos came out of the gate hot, taking a quick 5-0 lead. CSUSB was able to narrow the lead to 9-6, until the Broncos went up 11-7 and subsequently secured the win on a four-point run. With the win, the Broncos advance to the NCAA West Region Semifinals.
 
Senior Lydia Morohunfola did as she's done all year, collecting 15 kills with an impressive .464 attack percentage in the match. She finishes the season with a .413 hitting percentage, which ranks fourth in all of NCAA Division II.
 
All-CCAA Second Team selection Jenna Patton led the Yotes in kills, racking up 16 on 42 total attacks. All-CCAA First Team Ashley Robinson also collected 13 kills in 40 attacks.
 
Setter Marlee Nunley gathered 47 assists in the match, her second most of the season. Libero Makena Overbey and Asia Clarke continued to carry the defense, collectively recording 52 of the team's 100 digs.
 
This season marks the 25th consecutive year that the Yotes have eclipsed the 20-win mark – all of which have been under the leadership of head coach Kim Cherniss. The CSUSB women's volleyball team also extended their NCAA Tournament appearance streak to an unbelievable 22 consecutive seasons.
