SAN BERNARDINO – The first home game for the Yotes landed on a day of remembrance for all those lost on 9/11, 20 years ago. Before the game, there was a moment of silence and recognition to those who serve our nation in the military.
The Yotes kept Azusa scoreless in the first half as the defense kept the Cougars to only four shots, with one of those saved by goalkeeper
Carly Luna. The Yotes struggled on the scoring side as well, with a total of two shots in the first half unable to connect. The first half ended with the game even at zero a piece.
In the second half Azusa put the pressure on Yotes' defense, scoring their first goal in the 48
th minute. Luna went on to collect her second save of the match in the 51
st minute. Soon after the Cougars would make their last goal of the game in the 52
nd minute to seal the win.
Luna went on to collect four total saves for the game.
"Today we may not have gotten the results we were hoping for, but our team showed a lot of spirit against another very strong opponent" said coach
Mark Peters. "We continue to make improvements in each game, but we learned a lot from today. We have focused a lot recently on our defensive organization and moving forward we will build on our attacking ability as well."
The Yotes next match will be on Friday September 17
th against St. Edwards University. Live stats are on CSUSBAthletics.com.
