The CCAA has announced the 2020-21 Winter and Spring Academic Honor Rolls. All totaled 43 CSUSB student-athletes across six sports were named to the Honor Roll.
Previously named the Fall All-Academic Team, Honor Roll distinction is given to student-athletes who are a sophomore in academic standing with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3. The standard requirement of competing in a conference-sponsored sport has been waived for 2020-21, as honorees must be a member of their team in good standing.
The Yotes trailed only Cal State Dominguez Hills in total selections from the South Region.
"Despite the challenges of virtual classes during the Spring Semester, our student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom.," Faculty Athletic Representative,
J. Paul Vicknair, said. "I continue to be pleased with their academic accomplishments. The entire Athletics Department deserves credit for their commitment to academic success."
Women's basketball had four honorees with
Emily Herring as the repeat winner. On the men's side there were three first-time honorees.
In the spring, track & field posted 20 honorees with
Miranda Avila,
Destiny Colton,
Madison McPeak,
Savannah Milner,
Maya Price,
Abigail Toarmina,
Dajanae Williams, and
Chloe Wood being two-time honorees.
Destiny Jacobo and
Muffy Watson earned their third-straight award. Baseball had nine honorees with
Andres Quinones being a two-time winner and
Jackson Gilmore,
Carter Kimberly, and
Tyler Williams earning their third-straight award. There were four honorees on the golf team with
David Marris and
Randy Vergel de Dios earning their second awards. There were three winners from the softball team, with all three,
Alyssa Beck,
Kelia Paragas, and
Kaylee Williamson earning it for the second time.
"These awards represent another fantastic year of achievement in academics," CSUSB Director of Athletics
Shawn Chin-Farrell said. "Even though our student-athletes were unable to compete this season, they buckled down and achieved great things in the classroom. I am proud of their tenacity and ability to fight through adversity and find championship success in their studies. This is a great accomplishment for those programs and we are ready for continued success in the classroom and in competition in 2021-22. Go Yotes!"
The CCAA recognizes individuals academically per season - fall, winter and spring - for all CCAA sponsored sports. The CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll consists of eligible student-athletes who compete in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. The Winter Academic Honor Roll will honor men's and women's basketball players, with the Spring Academic Honor Roll consisting of student-athletes from men's and women's golf, men's and women's track and field, softball and baseball.
