CSUSB Gives Back

CSUSB Student-Athletes Continue To Giveback During Pandemic

The student-athletes of CSUSB are finding creative ways to give back in a socially distanced world

Community Service

Student-athletes at CSUSB are still finding ways during the current COVID-19 Pandemic to show their appreciation and give back to their community.  While still adhering to local and state social distancing and mask guidelines, the Yotes are finding ways to show the San Bernardino and Inland Empire community that they stand behind them and appreciate their good work.  Below are some recent examples of that service.

Members of the CSUSB Volleyball Team delivered baked goods to local San Bernardino Firefighters to show appreciation to our first responders.

The CSUSB Baseball and Softball Teams wanted to show their support for Social Justice and made a donation to the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino, an organization that provides free legal services to the needy to protect their rights with the donation helping to assist in their proactive drive to remedy problems.

The CSUSB Women's Basketball team was incredibly involved this fall semester, claiming the Coyote Challenge for their overall engagement.

Through community service, they mailed cards to senior centers on Grandfather's Day, and donated over $600 worth of toiletries, new toys, and new clothing to the Children's Foundation of America.

Through Operation Gratitude, an organization that forges strong bonds between Americans and Military and First Responders through service projects and acts of gratitude, the Women's Basketball Team sent Virtual Letters of Appreciation and donations to local first responders.

They donated over $60 worth of food to the Obershaw Den on campus.

All totaled, they put in 255 hours of community service this past semester.

CSUSB Track & Field Freshman student-athlete Maame Banahene donated 50 pieces of clothing and 7 pairs of shoes to the Anglican Church in Ghana to be given to teen girls, which was among a number of individual efforts by the Yotes of CSUSB Track & Field.

Maame Banahene
The church I had picked was the one my mom went when she was a teenager and went to the same school as well, and she always talks about how people are having a hard time making it, and her mom would always donate to the church. So I want to follow her footsteps as well. Just a legacy I want to follow. Be nice to people on your up's for they are the very same people you will meet on your way down. Be kind to one another."
