LA MIRADA – The CSUSB Coyotes wrapped up an even non-conference season with a runaway 11-2 win at Biola on Saturday afternoon.
Handing the Eagles their first loss of the year, the Yotes scored five runs in the first inning to seize control.
Andrew Talkington's triple plated two in the inning with
Kyle Csakan doubling and
Daryl Ruiz blasting a two-run homer. Ruiz doubled in the eighth to drive in two more and finished the day with six RBI.
The Yotes cranked out 12 hits as a team with
AJ Barraza, Talkington, and Ruiz all having two each and Csakan getting three.
Tyler Penix (1-1) allowed just one earned run over the first five innings and
Tanner Knapp and
Jackson Gilmore combined to shutout BU over the final four.
"It was great to see our offense come alive. We needed that to build off of for our league opener next weekend," head coach
Mike Nadeau said. "Ruiz with six RBIs and a big blast really lifted us. Pitching staff again was great holding them to only 2 runs. I like what I'm seeing out of this group and especially our senior leadership."
The Coyotes (3-3) open CCAA action at home next weekend with CSU East Bay coming to town. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
