SAN BERNARDINO – The CSUSB Coyotes took a pair of 6-5 walkoff decisions over Washburn at Fiscalini Field on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, Washburn tied the game in the top of the ninth, but the Yotes got one back in the bottom for the walkoff. In game two, the Yotes trailed 2-5 entering the ninth but walkoff grand slam from
GJ Hurst gave CSUSB the sweep.
In game one, the Yotes had built a 5-1 lead heading into the final three innings thanks to doubles from
Giovanni Del Negro and
Marty Dosen, and two RBI-singles from
AJ Barraza. In the final inning
Shawn Porthan took advantage of mistakes and came around to score the winning run. Barraza was three-for-five and
Deshawn Johnson and
Giovanni Del Negro each had two hits.
Blake Timm earned the win and
Andres Quinones earned the save pitching the final three innings allowing just one hit.
In game two, the Yotes scored in the second and fifth but trailed 2-5 entering the seventh. A double play almost ended the threat, but two walks loaded the bags and Hurst hit a pinch-hit homer to center for the win.
Tanner Knapp allowed just a single earned run over five innings and
Austyn Coleman pitched a perfect seventh.
