LA JOLLA – The CSUSB Coyotes could not recover from the first half and fell at No. 5 UC San Diego on Saturday night, 59-87.
The Yotes (14-4, 9-3 CCAA) were only outscored by the Tritons (17-1, 11-1 CCAA) by four in the second half, but a cold offensive half from the field in the first period was too much to overcome.
Andres Villa finished the night with 18 points,
Jeremy Smith and
Jordan Mitchell eached scored 13.
Daytone Jennings grabbed nine boards.
The Yotes outscored the Tritons in the paint, 30-22, but UCSD hit 15 threes and CSUSB struggled from long range. The Coyotes shot 43 percent from the field in the second half, besting the Tritons.
CSUSB will look to start another long win streak next Saturday night at 7:30 pm against Cal Poly Pomona as part of Military Appreciation presented by the US Army and the CSUSB Veterans Success Center. Live links are on CSUSBAthletics.com.
