FRESNO – The CSUSB Coyotes traveled up to Fresno Pacific on Saturday evening and earned the 2-1 victory over the Sunbirds.
The Yotes got on the board just four minutes in on a goal from Vidalia Abarca, with assists from Danielle Landrum and Kelly Kevershan as two slot passed led to a goal. FPU evened it up in the 52nd minute, but Abarca hammered home the game-winner in the 82nd minute as Natalie Day found her in the box.
The Yotes fired 11 shots on goal, and Sophia Cortez had an outstanding night with 17 saves in goal for the Yotes.
"Before the game I reminded the team the reason we fall is so we can learn how to pick ourselves up," CSUSB head coach LeBaron Hollimon said . "I'm really proud of how we did that in today's game after a run of poor results. I talked about being effective in big moments and we had several players huge in big moments, Day, Abarca, Kevershan, Rebekka Bogan, and Cortez."
Next up for the Yotes is a road trip to CSU San Marcos on Friday for a 12:30 pm match. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
