Annual Dave Stockton Coyote Classic Huge Success

Event has now eclipsed the one million dollar mark

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – On Monday, CSUSB Athletics hosted our 23rd Annual Dave Stockton Coyote Classic.  The event was a resounding success, bringing in a record of over $250,000 supporting the development of champion student-athletes.

The event was highlighted by the announcement of the William H. Colley Golf Scholarship Endowment, with an initial $150,000 gift from the family of William H. Colley.  Colley, the grandfather of CSUSB head golf coach Kyle Emerson, was a grade school teacher, administrator, and Marine Veteran in Southern California with a lifelong passion for golf. He won several prestigious events throughout the state and some of his favorite memories were on the golf course with his grandson Kyle. Mark Andrews was so moved by the donation he committed an additional $40,000 to the endowment as well.

"William Colley's legacy will live on in the lives of the student-athletes that will benefit from the generosity of his daughter, Judy Newby," Athletics Director Shawn Farrell declared during the ceremony. He went to exclaim, "Thank you Judy, we are excited to see the endowment grow in the years to come and eventually exceed our goal of $500,000."

The tournament featured two-time PGA Championship winner Dave Stockton, a San Bernardino native, who is recognized worldwide as golf's top short-game teacher. He began the day with his yearly clinic for the over 140 golfers in attendance.

The event, played this year at Canyon Crest Golf Club in Riverside, had something for everyone along one of the best courses in the Inland Empire, featuring games, demonstrations, refreshments and food from CSUSB Athletics' Partners.

The evening concluded with awards, raffle, and live and silent auctions featuring items donated by generous business owners from all over California.  With this year's total, over $1 million has been raised over the life of the tournament, generating a legacy of championship support for student-athletes.

None of it would be possible without the tireless work of the CSUSB Staff, and the generous support of Coyote benefactors like Nick and Tina Coussoulis, Dave Stockton and many more.
