SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes fought hard against No. 2 UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon at Fiscalini Field, falling 5-8.
The Yotes scored five runs on nine hits, plating four in the last three innings as they kept fighting. Jacob Allen gave CSUSB a 1-0 run in the first on a single when he athletically dodged the first baseman down the line. The Tritons hit a grand slam and scored one run in a couple innings to follow. AJ Barraza singled to score two in the ninth with the bases loaded and Gabe Chavez brought another home with a sac fly.
Alan Vasquez, who struck out five, gave the Yotes six innings in his start and the CSUSB bullpen of Andres Quinones, Oscar Rauda, and Jackson Gilmore allowed four hits and two runs with two K's among them. Hunter Antillon had three hits and Allen had two.
The Coyotes (13-25, 10-23 CCAA) will finish the series with a doubleheader in La Jolla tomorrow at 1 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
