Yotes Sweep DH Over No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona

Series finale tomorrow

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes picked up two wins over No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon, 8-1 and 6-1, at Fiscalini Field.

In game one the Yotes came right out of the gates as Shawn Porthan and Jason Nall led off the first with back-to-back jacks for the 2-0 lead.  That was all C.J. Blowers (1-0) would need as he scattered five hits and a single run over eight innings with five K's.  Ivan Ramos singled home another run in the second and a perfect squeeze bunt from Nall made it 4-0 through two.

The Broncos scored in the third, but a sac fly and double into the left field corner by David Osuna, added to a single up the middle from Rylan Cratsenberg capped a four-run eighth inning for CSUSB.  Noah Simon wasted two CPP hits in the ninth.

"I had the command that I wanted, just not the velocity today," Blowers said.  "I was able to get the job down with the guys I had behind me.  The offense is starting to roll and we are seeing it well."

In game two, the Yotes jumped out early again as Ivan Ramos laced a double down the left field line to make it 1-0 in the second.  Blake Timm (4-2) was money from there, allowing just a single run on six hits over six innings of work.  Ryan Kurtz worked around a walk in the seventh.

The Yotes tacked on five insurance runs in the fifth, as Ramos drove in another, and Garrett Ouellette doubled and Mando Rodriguez singled.  The Yotes had eight hits as a team, with Rodriguez and Ramos collecting two each, and Colton Combs adding a double.

The Coyotes (8-11, 5-9 CCAA) will look to take the series tomorrow with a single game at Pomona at 12 pm.  Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
