SAN DIEGO – The Yotes came firing out of the gates in the CCAA Tournament Quarterfinals at UC San Diego on Tuesday night, but could not hang on, falling 69-98.
Naradain James scored the first four points of the game and CSUSB ran out to an 11-2 after a Justice Green dunk and James layup. The Tritons closed the gap down to six, but the Coyotes jumped out again 19-10 on a Tyrell Henderson jumper, capping a six-point run from him. The Tritons took control from there though, eventually tying the game at 22 with seven minutes left. UCSD led 40-29 at the half.
Henderson led the Yotes on the night with 15 points, Garrett Baggett added 14, and Naradain James had 10 points and seven boards. The Yotes shot 42 percent from the field, but UCSD shot 53 percent and made 15 threes to blow the game open.
The Yotes finish the season 15-14 and look forward to next year with the return of many underclassmen who played significant roles and an exciting recruiting class already taking shape.
