SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes could not get the stops they needed in the second half, and fell to San Francisco State at home, 72-81, on Thursday night.
The Yotes led by three at half, but in the end, SFSU hit 12 threes and shot 47 percent from the field. Uncharacteristically, CSUSB was outrebounded 34-31. Andres Villa led the Yotes with 19 points and 10 boards, while Malik Rhodes scored 16 and Tyrell Henderson added 11.
CSUSB fell behind early, but a 23-5 run put them up 10 with four minutes left in the first half. They went to half up 41-38. The Coyotes held their lead in the second half to the 11:48 mark and were unable to regain the edge from there, staying close to the end.
"We didn't get stops tonight," CSUSB head coach Andy Newman said. "Going forward we need to be the team that wants it more, but that was not the case tonight."
The Yotes (11-8, 7-6 CCAA) will go forward against Sonoma State on Saturday at 3 pm. Live links are available on CSUSBathletics.com.
