SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes came out aggressive early, scoring two goals in the first 17 minutes on Sunday morning at Premier Field, handing Stanislaus State a 2-1 loss.
Kelly Kevershan took an opportunistic turnover in the 11th minute and beat the keeper on the left side for her sixth goal of the year to get the scoring started. Just five mintues later Alyssa Campa took a turnover and flat out out-ran a handful of defenders over three-fourths of the field to score her first of the year in the top left shelf.
"I came out as aggressive as I could, press anywhere I can, and put myself in good positions to score," Kevershan said.
The Warriors got on the board in the 51st minute with a penalty kick, but the Coyotes were able to stave off any goals from that point forward. Sophia Cortez was excellent in goal for CSUSB with four saves and blowing up many opportunities with aggressive runs forward.
Cal State San Bernardino (3-6, 2-2 CCAA) will look to carry the momentum on the road next week, first traveling to Humboldt State on Friday at 12:30 pm.
