ARCATA, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes continued their winning ways and moved to 3-2 in the CCAA on Friday afternoon with a win at Humboldt State.
Both goals came from Gabby Evaristo, her second and third of the year, and in a span of less than three minutes beginning with the first in the 55th minute. She scored unassisted on that goal, hitting it home through the bottom left corner. At 57:57 she took a pass from Kelly Kevershan in the middle and sent a shot high on the far side into the net. HSU got one back with three minutes remaining on a penalty kick.
"Today's win is very satisfying because of the circumstances with which we did it with," head coach LeBaron Hollimon. "We had to deal with a very good Humboldt side who asked some very tough questions of us in the game. Two weeks ago I am not sure we win this game, and we weren't at our best as a team today, but the players fought for each other and didn't let their individual struggles impact their work for their teammates. Gabby's two moments of quality were the difference in the end."
It was another outstanding match for CSUSB keeper Sophia Cortez who made four saves and only gave up the PK. The Coyotes almost got on board right before half when Kiley Wright fired one off the crossbar, but Evaristo used that momentum just 12 minutes into the second half.
