SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes kicked off CCAA play in style on Wednesday afternoon at Premier Field, with a 2-0 shutout win over Cal Poly Pomona.
The Coyotes struck early just seven minutes in as Kelly Kevershan took an opportunistic chance when the CPP keeper failed to clear and she turned the steal into an open net goal after beating the keeper. The teams went to the half at that score, but Kevershan struck again in the 56th minute with her second of the match and fifth of the year when Brielle Jones found her in transition as she beat the keeper and scored left corner from 15 yards.
CPP led in shots, 19-7, but Coyote keeper Carly Luna put together a well-earned shutout with nine saves in goal. CSUSB was very efficient in their attack, scoring on two of their four shots on goal.
CSU San Bernardino (2-4, 1-0 CCAA) stays at home this week hosting San Francisco State on Friday at 3 pm.
