TOCKTON (May 6, 2018) — CSUSB has faced No. 2-ranked Chico State six times this season and six times the Wildcats have dealt the Coyotes a defeat.
No matter Sunday; the Coyotes earned their just reward after their 3-2 loss by accomplishing a solid argument for an NCAA Tournament berth after finishing second in the conference tourney at Bill Simoni Field at the University of the Pacific..
The Coyotes will be playing in their second straight NCAA Tournament and for the fourth time in school history when the tourney field is announced at 7 a.m. Monday at
www.ncaasports.com.
CSUSB (30-20 overall) grabbed a 2-0 lead after
Morgan Ratliff scored on a passed ball in the first inning and
Samantha Vacko came through with a second-inning, RBI-single that scored
Dominique Walker. All runs coming against one of the favorites for national player of the year, RHP Haley Gilham.
Chico State answered back with a three-run second against Coyotes' starter
Bailey Powell and that one-run differential remained the same for the duration.
Jessica Brown,
Caitlyn Olan and
Taylor Ancona accounted for the other three hits for CSUSB.
Named to the all-tournament team were
Sydney Kreimann,
Bailey Powell and
Monica Maddox.
Chico State (50-3) will receive the NCAA West Regional's top seed and play host to one of the two sub-regionals that begin Thursday. It is thought that Concordia, Irvine will host the other sub-regional.
