SAN BERNARDINO (May 3, 2018) — A 16-hit attack put CSUSB in control as the Coyotes went to take the opening game of their series against Cal State LA, winning 12-8 on Thursday at Fiscalini Field.
 
The records
CSUSB matched its season victory total from a year ago as it improved to 15-32, 15-26 CCAA. CSULA fell to 24-22, 21-20.
 
Nicely done, Mr. Lineberger
Junior CF Ty Lineberger went 5-for-5 at the plate with an RBI-double in the second.
 
And not to be outdone
Gabe Chavez added a pair of doubles, including a key two-run two-bagger in the eighth. CSUSB, which led 9-8 through seven innings, added three runs in the eighth for extra cushion.
 
Going deep
Junior C Garrett Ouellette came through with his third HR of the season with a leadoff blast to right in the second.
 
Good times rolling
Junior Alec Ceniceros ripped his 11^th HR of the season with a three-run shot off the right-field scoreboard in the fifth. Erick Allegro had three RBI and Shawn Porthan also had two hits.
 
On the mound
Senior RHP Matthew Moriarty threw seven innings and struck out six with three walks and improved to 2-6. Reliever Noah Simon faced just three batters in the eighth with one strikeout, and senior RHP Konner Arnold threw the ninth. He induced a key double-play and faced just three Golden Eagles.
