IRVINE (May 11, 2018) — A pair of two-run home runs placed the Coyotes into a tough spot all game in their NCAA West 2 sub-regional loss to Academy of Art, played at Concordia on Friday afternoon.
The Coyotes ended their season at 30-22 overall.
"It's a tough game to play from behind, especially when you reach the postseason,'' head coach
Jim Maier said. "It is a huge accomplishment to play in an NCAA tournament. We were a scrappy team all season long and Coyote softball is in a good place for years to come.''
ARTU took command on a two-run shot by Brenna Mitchell in the first inning, and Samantha Klune added one of her own in the fifth.
CSUSB earned its run on a sacrifice fly from
Dominique Walker, who drove in
Jessica Brown.
The Coyotes had six hits with a double from All-West Region catcher
Jessica Brown. They had singles from
Morgan Ratliff,
Caitlyn Olan,
Briana Quintana,
Monica Maddox and
Samantha Vacko.
CSUSB stranded eight runners on base.
