CHICO (March 25, 2018) — Shawn Porthan drove in four runs including a three-run home run and senior RHP
Matthew Moriarty supplied relief punch as CSUSB defeated Chico State 11-3 in the series finale Sunday afternoon.
The Coyotes improved to 9-17 overall and 9-11 in the CCAA heading into this week's series against Stanislaus State, beginning Thursday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
CSUSB raced to a 5-0 lead with the key hit from Erik Allegro on a two-run single in the second.
Porthan came through with the series' only home run, a three-run shot to left that extended the Coyotes' lead to 8-3 in the sixth.
The Coyotes, who had 17 hits, received three hits from
Gabe Chavez, Allegro and
Jason Nall.
On the mound,
Dylan Stablein earned the start and shutdown the Wildcats for his first win of the season in three decisions. He gave his team 5.1 innings, striking out three and giving up seven hits and three runs — all earned.
Moriarty came on in the sixth and struck out six with just one walk and only three hits allowed. His effort gave him his first save of the season.
