LAS VEGAS, Nev. (February 4, 2018) — CSUSB is off to its best start in 25 seasons after going 5-0 at the Desert Stinger Tournament with Sunday's 9-1 victory over Nebraska-Kearney.
The start is CSUSB's best since the 1993 team opend the year 8-0.
Coyotes 9, Nebraska-Kearney 1 (6 innings)
The Coyotes struck with an eight-run second inning and never looked back in earning the victory that was shortened in the sixth due to the eight-run rule.
CSUSB sent 13 batters to the plate and
Briana Quintana and
Dominique Walker each had two RBI on the day. Freshman
Jamiana Gateb had a triple for CSUSB's only extra-base hit. The Coyotes finished with nine hits.
On the mound, junior RHP
Amanda Ramirez improved to 3-0 with the complete-game effort. She struck out four and allowed only three hits.
Way to go Jessica
Senior
Jessica Brown was named all-tournament, after hitting .529 (9-for-17) with a pair of home runs and eight RBIs. She was also 2-for-2 in the stolen base department, and totaled 17 bases for a slugging percentage of 1.000 on the weekend.
Coyote debut in style
Sophomore infielder
Samantha Vacko also made the all-tournament team, with 25 errorless chances as the team's second baseman. In addition to her fielding excellence, Vacko batted .500 (5-for-10) with a double and two RBI, and led her team with three stolen bases.

CSUSB takes on Chico State, which joined the Coyotes as one of three teams to go 5-0 at the Stinger. The series begins 12 p.m. Friday at Coyote Park.
