POMONA (February 24, 2018) — Jasmine Sauser led CSUSB with 15 points, but a key third-quarter run by host Cal Poly Pomona was the difference in a 62-55 season-ending loss Saturday night.
The third quarter
The teams were tied at 24-24 at halftime, but CPP ran off a 13-2 run to begin the third quarter and never looked back. CSUSB narrowed the gap to four (57-53) on a Sauser layup with 55 seconds left in the game, but Casey McWilliam hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 41 seconds for CPP.
Tough night from outside
CSUSB shot just 28.8 percent from the field on 15 of 52 shots. The Coyotes were 4 of 20 from 3-point land, yet stayed in the game thanks to their 21 of 26 effort from the free throw line. The Coyotes committed 17 turnovers.
The record
CSUSB finished the 2017-18 season 11-15 overall and 9-13 in the CCAA. The Coyotes tied Sonoma State for eighth place in the CCAA, but the Seawolves earned the final CCAA Tournament berth by virtue of their 53-51 win last Saturday at Coussoulis Arena.
