TURLOCK, Calif. – A ridiculously dominant first half fueled CSUSB to another CCAA road victory on Wednesday night, defeating Stanislaus State, 70-42.
The Coyotes led 45-18 after the first frame and played Stanislaus State pretty much even in the second half to win comfortably.
"Tonight was an amazing team effort," CSUSB head coach
Andy Newman said. "Everyone has bought into the defensive end of the floor and it is really showing now."
In the first half, the Coyotes held the Warriors to just six made baskets and 21.4 percent shooting. They were two-of-16 from three and only got to the line six times. Beyond that, CSUSB dominated the glass, 23-13 and led for all but 26 seconds of the half.
On the night, the scoring was balanced for the Coyotes with
Daytone Jennings scoring 13,
Malik Rhodes adding 11, and
Garrett Baggett and
Dante Williams scoring 10 each. Four other Yotes had five or more points. The Coyotes shot 44.8 percent on the night, hit nine threes, and led on the glass 49-31.
The Coyotes led 11-7 before going on a 23-0 run over 10 minutes in length in the first half. That was all they needed on the night as they outscored the Warriors by one in the second half.
CSUSB (7-4, 3-3 CCAA) moved to even in the conference and will enter the holiday break riding a two-game winning streak. They return home to Coussoulis Arena for their next five games beginning with a non-conference tilt with Redlands at 3 pm on December 30. Live links are available on CSUSBathletics.com.
