ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes turned a tied game at halftime into a 10-point win at Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon, 64-54.
Daytone Jennings posted the double-double with 12 points and 13 boards, leading CSUSB in both.
Naradain James added 12 points and
Malik Rhodes scored 10.
Garrett Baggett and
Dante Williams had nine each. The Coyotes dominated the glass, 40-30, and shot 51 percent from the field, holding SSU to 31 percent. CSUSB found their groove in the paint, outscoring SSU 34-18.
The first half was back and forth with CSUSB leading most the way and leading by as much as five before a late three from SSU tied the game at 27 at half. James opened the second half with a layup and a 9-0 run capped by a layup from James had CSUSB ahead 38-28 four minutes in. They increased that lead to 13 six minutes later and let the Seawolves no closer than seven before leading by as much as 15 late.
"When we play disciplined defensively we are a dangerous team, and we showed that in the second half," head coach
Andy Newman said. "The goal now is to play like that for a full 40 minutes. But today, I am really happy with the overall effort and winning on the road is difficult in this league, so we are very happy with that result."
