SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes had one slip away late as they fell at Point Loma on Friday night, 68-83. Similar to Tuesday night at UCSD, the Yotes were right in it to the 13-minute mark of the second half.
Naradain James and Daytone Jennings led the Coyotes in points once again with 16 and 14 points respectively. Garrett Baggett and Tyrell Henderson grabbed seven boards each and Justice Green scored 12 points off the bench. The Sea Lions made six second-half threes and shot 47 free throws, making 35. The Yotes went to the line 14 times, making eight, as each team shot 40+ percent from the field.
The Coyotes built a six-point lead through the first seven minutes of the game, capped by a three from Green. PLNU responded with an 11-0 run, had a lead as big as nine in the half, but a three from Baggett at the 2:22 mark tied the game at 26. PLNU led 30-28 at the half. A dunk by James tied the game early in the second half and his jumper quickly gave CSUSB the lead. The lead grew as big as four, but a 17-4 run by PLNU put them in command of the half.
The Coyotes dominated in the paint, 34-20, and their bench came through with 25 points and they grabbed 11 offensive rebounds for 10 points, leading in all categories.
The Coyotes (2-2) will look to bounce back tomorrow at 5:30 pm against Seattle Pacific at PLNU. Live links are available at csusbathletics.com.
