SAN FRANCISCO (January 6, 2018) — A dedicated effort at driving to the basket, without question, was the difference in the Coyotes' 71-59 victory over host San Francisco State in CCAA basketball Saturday night.
The Coyotes, who did not make a trip to the free throw line in the first half after attempting only one the night before at Sonoma State, hit 18 of 21 shots in the second half to run away with the victory over the Gators.
Balanced scoring makes a difference
The Coyotes received balanced scoring with five reaching double figures.
Arianna Knox and
Sabrea Coleman each scored 13 points, with
Kaitlyn Parks (12),
Jasmine Sauser (12) and
Ashley Carson (11). It marked the first time in two seasons that five Coyotes scored in double figures (March 1, 2016, vs. Stanislaus State).
The difference maker
CSUSB, which trailed 31-24 at halftime, made a statement in the third quarter. The Coyotes outscored the Gators 23-6 for the quarter, thanks to a 21-4 run over the final 8:16. CSUSB, which trailed by 11 in the second quarter, matched their single-best deficit comeback win this season (CSU Monterey Bay).
Positive production
CSUSB is now 3-0 when it scores at least 70 points. It was the best offensive showing since 80-65 win over Chico State on Dec. 3.
Perfection from the stripe.
Knox, who was 3 of 3 from the line, remains perfect in 16 attempts this season.
What's next?
CSUSB (6-8 overall, 4-6 CCAA) returns to Northern California on Thursday when it plays at Chico State.
