Near misses cost CSUSB

GOLDEN, Colo. (Sept. 10, 2017) — A first-half goal by Colorado Mines meant the difference for CSUSB on Sunday afternoon in its 1-0 loss in nonconference women's soccer.

What happened
The Orediggers' Giselle Sawaged scored on an unassisted goal in the 35th minute. It was her first goal of the season.

Near misses
CSUSB had four shots on goal including two from senior Rachael Figg. In the 72nd minute, Figg drilled the crossbar on a near miss.

What's next
CSUSB takes its 2-2-1 overall record into the CCAA opener at home against  Cal State L.A. The Golden Eagles ended the Coyotes' season in 2016 in the CCAA Tournament opening round.

Coach says
"A tough one to take,'' head coach LeBaron Hollimon said. "I'm proud of the team for how they competed and approached the game with the right attitude. I'm confident that we can fix a few things. We will win more games playing the way we played today. An inch lower on Rachael's shot, and she doesn't hit the crossbar. An inch to the keeper's left and she doesn't make a fingertip save.''

Three-dot data
GK Destiny Collins had five saves on the day … Mines outshot the Coyotes, 12-6, while CSUSB had the edge in corner kicks, 3-2 … Cassandra Bermudez and Bianca Scodellaro had the other SOG for CSUSB.
