Quick deficit costs Coyotes

SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 15, 2017) — CSULA's Paulina Chaidez took care of the Coyotes with a pair of first-half goals, separated by two-plus minutes, in CSUSB's 2-0 loss in the CCAA opener for both teams.

Scoring summary
Chaidez scored both of her goals in identical fashion, racing down the left side of the field, and firing wide of Coyotes' GK Destiny Collins' left side. The first in the 15th minute, and the second in the 18th minute.

Coming up strong
Despite giving up the two first-half goals, Collins did her best to keep the Coyotes in the game. She totaled seven games including all three of the Golden Eagles' SOG in the second half.

Nose for the goal
CSUSB had seven total shots with three SOG — one each from Rachael Figg, Moani Rivers and Anna Pinedo. All three SOG occurred in the first half.

All 90 minutes
Six Coyotes played the entire game: Collins, Nicki Argentieri, Bianca Scodellaro, Alyssa Campa, Cassandra Bermudez and Maria Gallardo.

What's next
CSUSB takes its 2-3-1 overall record and 0-1 CCAA slate into Sunday afternoon's contest at home against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Kickoff is 2 p.m.

Coach says
"Today was a classic challenge of playing in the CCAA with power, pace and skill,'' head coach LeBaron Hollimon said. "We couldn't find solutions to break down their sound defensive organization and struggled early on transition moments from offense to defense quick enough, and then vice versa defense to offense. Many will say we lost. I say we don't lose, we learn. We're learning a lot at the moment so hopefully we can start having all of that learning transition to winning ways again.''
