RIVERSIDE (August 31, 2017) — All-West Region senior
Rachael Figg scored twice in the game's opening 17 minutes and the Coyotes' defense was equally effective as they opened the 2017 season with an impressive 2-1 victory over California Baptist on Thursday morning.
Difference maker
Figg responded with her first shot of the season, thanks to a feed from
Gabby Evaristo just six minutes into the game. The Fontana native scored from top right against CBU's Sara Escobedo, who was honored as the Pac West preseason GK of the year. Then, Figg came through again in the 17
th minute, again from Evaristo. The goal was a breakaway from 10 yards.
Strong in the net
Junior
Destiny Collins, who made her Coyote debut at GK, faced just one shot from CBU, coming in the fourth minute. CBU scored its only goal on a team goal with 84:47 gone.

After CBU scored the goal, the Coyotes outshot the Lancers 3-0 in the final five minutes. "Very satisfied with the effort this morning,'' he said. "We defended our goal with a lot of honor. Going 84 minutes scoreless until the own goal says a lot about our effort.''
Series record
The Coyotes are now 8-2-1 all-time against the Lancers, who move on to Division I play and the Western Athletic Conference next season. CBU is predicted to finish second in the Pac West, the Coyotes seventh in the CCAA.
