STOCKTON (May 6, 2017) — CSUMB's Hailey Fein no-hit the Coyotes through 5 1/3 innings as the regular-season champion Otters defeated the Coyotes 9-1 in six innings during Saturday's CCAA Tournament.
The Coyotes, who entered the tourney having won 19 of their last 21 games, are now 37-19 overall and await the NCAA Tournament announcement Monday morning. The festivities begin at 7 a.m. at www.ncaasports.com.
What happened
The Otters raced to a 6-0 lead, thanks to a three-run home run by Madison Casto in the second inning off All-CCAA LHP
Cassandra Williams. That six-run lead was more than enough for Fein, who faced just three over the minimum until
Jessica Angulo ripped a double down the left-field line that broke up the no-hitter.
Jessica Brown broke up the shut-out bid on the next at-bat, driving in Angulo with a double to right.
Through the two games
CSUSB totaled just eight hits on the weekend, with first-team All-CCAA performers
Morgan Ratliff and Brown collecting two hits apiece. Those two went 4-for-10 combined, all others were a combined 4-for-33 with .
On the hill
Williams had a a tough time, throwing just 5.2 innings in two starts. She gave up 10 hits, four home runs and struck out just one.
Amanda Ramirez threw seven innings and allowed 11 hits.
