Historic season comes to a close

CHICO (May 12, 2017) — Cal State San Bernardino's season came to an end Friday afternoon in the NCAA West 2 Sub-Regional, losing 5-3 against Chico State in a loser-out contest.

CSUSB, which was playing in just its third NCAA Tournament in history and first in six seasons, finished 38-21 overall. The Coyotes return all but seniors LHP Cassandra Williams, OF Caelan Smith and OF Jessica Angulo.

Trailing 1-0 through one inning, CSUSB struck with a two-run, two-hit second inning. Caitlyn Olan led off with a double to right center and pinch-runner Amanda Fitzgerald scored when Angulo connected on a two-out single to short. Briana Quintana, who reached on an error by the shortstop, scored on another infield error.

Chico came back to tie in the third, then took the lead for good in the fourth on a lead-off home run by Megan Bowley in the fifth and the Wildcats up 3-2.

The Wildcats added two in the seventh before CSUSB's Jessica Brown led off the seventh with a home run — her 13th on the season.

Morgan Ratliff, Olan, and Angulo had two hits apiece — Olan with a pair of doubles.
