Coyotes tame Cougars

SAN MARCOS (March 19, 2017) — The Coyotes completed one of their finest weekends in school history with a sweep on the road over Cal State San Marcos, 10-1 and 2-0, in CCAA softball Sunday afternoon.

CSUSB, which defeated the nation's top-ranked team Humboldt State in three of four games at Coyote Park on Friday and Saturday, took care of business in a doubleheader over the Cougars that was postponed due to rain last month.

The Coyotes take their 17-11 and 12-8 CCAA marks into this weekend's series at Chico State that begins Sunday.

Game 1: Coyotes 10, CSU San Marcos 1 5 innings
The Coyotes scored three runs on five straight hits in the second inning, and Morgan Ratliff ripped a three-run home run and CSUSB remained firmly in front.

Jessica Brown had two RBI on the game and Monica Maddox went 3 for 3. Briana Quintana and Amanda Herrera both had two hits.

On the mound, senior LHP Cassandra Williams struck one, walked one and gave up six hits.

Game 2: Coyotes 2, CSU San Marcos 0
Sophomore RHP Amanda Ramirez dominated the Cougars, throwing a three-hitter. She struck out four and retired the final 10 batters in order. In fact, not one Cougar advanced past second base.

Kaylee Gemmell connected on a first-inning sac fly that brought in Morgan Ratliff. Brown was walked with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Angulo went 3 for 3 — all singles and Ashley Leffingwell had two singles. Brown had the only extra-base hit in the game, a double in the first.
