SAN BERNARDINO (March 17, 2017) — No. 1 Humboldt State may have been the team wearing green on St. Patrick's Day, but the upstart Coyotes were the ones who had Irish eyes smiling upon them Friday afternoon.

Caitlyn Olan launched a towering three-run home run that keyed the Coyotes and senior LHP
Cassandra Williams was masterful on the mound in a stunning 9-1 opening-game victory called after six innings, and then CSUSB scratched six runs in the third inning in the second game and held on for an 8-5 win for the sweep.
CSUSB takes a 14-10 overall record and 9-7 CCAA record into Saturday's doubleheader. HSU had its nine-game winning streak end and stands at 20-3, 13-3. The sweep marked the first time in two seasons that HSU was swept in a conference doubleheader (Sonoma State, March 20, 2015).

CSUSB grabbed a 1-0 in the first on a
Taylor Ancona single, and then scored five in the third for an insurmountable lead.
Kaylee Gemmell reached on an infield error that scored
Monica Maddox and
Jessica Angulo and CSUSB led 3-0 that set the stage for Olan.
The Oakley junior, who entered the day with just five hits, absolutely crushed a towering shot well past the left-field wall for her second HR on the season
Leading 6-1 in the sixth, Ancona singled to short and two runs scored with one coming on shortstop interference. Three batters later,
Briana Quintana laced a sac fly that brought in Ancona and the game-shortened belonged to CSUSB.
On the mound, Williams (8-6) starred with five strikeouts, two walks and allowed just four hits.
Game 2: Coyotes 8, HSU 5
Trailing 3-2 entering the third, CSUSB got going with a six-run, seven-hit inning with 10 batters.
Morgan Ratiff had a two-run triple in the second. In the third, Quintana and Angulo each had two-run singles. Ratliff added another RBI this time on a single, and Gemmell added a sac fly.
In the HSU seventh, the Lumberjacks loaded the bases with no out, but Williams found a way to work through the jam in relief of
Amanda Ramirez. Williams earned a ground-out at the plate, added a strikeout and earned a ground out to first to end the game.
