SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 3, 2017) – For the second straight game the Coyotes earned a hard-fought victory against a team that ranks ahead of them in the CCAA.
Behind
Mya Johnson's 19 points and
Courtney Coleman with 14, CSUSB defeated visiting Cal State East Bay 59-47 at Coussoulis Arena on Friday night. The victory places CSUSB at 11-6 overall and 8-5 in the CCAA, while the Pioneers drops to 13-8, 10-4.
Johnson may have ended her streak of double-doubles at six, but on what also stood out on this night was the defensive effort coach
Susan Crebbin's team put on CCAA leading scorer Shomari Harris. The Coyotes held her scoreless from the 3-point stripe, after she tied the school record with seven treys in last Saturday's 72-62 win over Cal Poly Pomona.
Harris still finished with a team-high 15 points.
The Coyotes led through three quarters, 46-29, before the Pioneers cut the lead to nine early in the period.
Johnson was 9 of 14 from the floor and finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. Coleman was 4 of 8 with four free throws.
Summer Ramsey followed with six points and a game-high eight assists.
Taylor Goldsberry and
Sabrea Coleman both had five.
The Coyotes return to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday when they face Cal State Monterey Bay.
