SAN BERNARDINO (Feb 23, 2017) — Blake McBride scored 14 points and
Ramon Eaton added 12 in the Coyotes' 74-64 loss to UC San Diego in CCAA basketball Thursday night at Coussoulis Arena.
CSUSB, which lost its fifth straight game, dropped to 11-13 overall and 7-12 in the CCAA. Despite the loss, the Coyotes still have a chance at earning the eighth and final spot in the CCAA Tournament on Saturday. A CSUSB victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills, and a Humboldt State loss to San Francisco State would seal a CCAA Tourney berth.
The Tritons (22-5, 17-3) won their first CCAA regular-season title in school history, thanks to 26 points from Adam Klie and 23 from Chris Hansen. The Tritons led for nearly 39 minutes, thanks to 15 more field goal attempts than the Coyotes. UCSD outscored the Coyotes 36-20 in the paint in a game with four lead changes and one tie.
Junior
Phil Reed had nine points with three blocks and four rebounds.
The Coyotes will honor their three seniors — Eaton,
Shawn Joseph and
Everett Turner — in a pregame ceremony Saturday night.
