LOS ANGELES (December 14, 2017) — Senior
Sabrea Coleman led the Coyotes with 16 points, and three others scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough in their 70-54 loss to host Cal State LA in CCAA basketball Thursday night.
The records
CSUSB, now 4-4 overall and 2-3 CCAA, steps outside of conference play for the final time this season when it takes on Concordia, Ca., on Saturday at Coussoulis Arena. The game is dubbed Community Night as admission is free. CSULA improved to 4-7, 3-2.
Fell behind early
CSULA raced to a 23-6 lead after one quarter and led for nearly 39 minutes. The Coyotes scored just three field goals in both the first and second quarter.
Hitting double digits
Kaitlyn Parks (5 of 7 FGs, 1 of 2 FTs) and
Ashley Carson (3 of 6 FGs, 5 of 5 FTs) each scored 11 points and
Genaya Wilkinson had 10 points with seven rebounds. Those three, along with Coleman, scored 48 of the Coyotes' 54 points.
In the second half
CSUSB played much more inspired basketball in the second half, outscoring the Golden Eagles, 36-30. The Coyotes shot 48.4 percent on 15 of 31 shooting.
Coach Says
"It took us 13 minutes to shake off the finals break,'' head coach
Susan Crebbin said. "The second half was the Coyote energy we expect to have and compete in the CCAA.''
