MONMOUTH, Ore. (Nov. 11, 2017) — CSUSB played an impressive second quarter in its season-opening rout over Saint Martin's in nonconference play Saturday afternoon at the Hampton Inn Division II Shootout played at Western Oregon.
Balanced scoring gets the job done
Ashley Carson and
Sabrea Coleman each scored 10 points, while
Kaitlyn Parks,
Arianna Knox,
Lunden Junious-Reliford and
Aries Cowser-Barnes all scored eight points. Ten Coyotes factored in the scoring column in a game the Coyotes eventually led by 30 points (9:53 Q4).
What's next
The Coyotes complete the weekend Sunday against host Western Oregon.
About that second quarter
CSUSB held the Saints to just two field goals in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Junious-Reliford scored six of her eight points in the quarter and the Coyotes were never threatened again.
Tell Tale Sign of Rout
A sure sign of victory is forcing an opponent into more turnovers that field goals allowed. And that's what happened against Saint Martin's. The Saints turned the ball over 22 times and scored just 14 FGs.
The Coach says
"A very good start to our season with a win,'' coach
Susan Crebbin said. "We received great contributions from everyone today. We adjusted after the first quarter and controlled the boards and turned up the defense.''
