TURLOCK (Jan. 28, 2017) — A 5-0 spurt led by a
Mya Johnson 3-pointer in the game's final minute gave CSUSB a 68-65 victory over host Stanislaus State in CCAA basketball Saturday night.
Johnson continued her double-double propensity with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, and a stellar effort from freshman
Taylor Goldsberry (5 of 5 FGs, 12 points, four rebounds) pushed CSUSB's record to 10-6 overall and 7-5 in the CCAA.
The Coyotes grabbed the lead from the beginning and built an 11-point lead early in the second quarter when
Sabrea Coleman scored a layup with 9:37 remaining in the half and CSUSB up 24-13.
Stanislaus clawed back and led by as many as seven points late in the third quarter until the Coyotes bounced back.
A pair of free throws from Goldsberry gave CSUSB a 53-52 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Coyotes extended the lead to six (58-52) when she hit a layup with 6:49 left.
The Warriors answered with a 9-1 run when Johnson hit a jumper that tied the game at 61-61 with 2:46 left.
The game was tied for the fourth and final time until Johnson hit just her third 3-pointer of the season that put the Coyotes up 66-63 with 52 seconds left. Free throws from Coleman and
Summer Ramsey made the game a two-possession game with CSUSB leading 68-63 with seven seconds to go.
Joining Johnson and Goldsberry in double figures were
Casie Johnson (14) and Coleman (11).
CSUSB finished the month of January 5-2 and snapped its two-game losing streak.
The Warriors (10-12, 8-5) were led by Cassidy Sanders-Curry, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Mya Johnson's double-double was her ninth this year and sixth straight.
