SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 11, 2016) — Better play on the defensive end and a pair of opportunistic goals made the Coyotes a 2-1 victor in their nonconference soccer game against Regis University on Sunday afternoon at Coyote Premier Field.
Goals from
Anna Pinedo and
Rachael Figg gave the Coyotes a big lift in earning their first victory in four games in 2016.
The Rangers from Denver got on the board in the first half, scoring in the 8
th minute, thanks to Mickie Piechowski, her second goal of the season.
CSUSB then clamped down on the Rangers, and Pinedo got into position early in her shift when she subbed in. Teammate
Alyssa Campa put the ball front of the goal and Pineda one-timed the shot to tie the game at 1-1 in the 33
rd minute.
The Coyotes earned the game-winning goal from Figg, who was in position on the right side of the net and secured the ball from
Susan Ibarra in the 62
nd minute. Figg went left side past Regis GK Kat Crump and the Coyotes made sure their first lead of the season stood.
Senior GK
Megan Vina had two saves on the afternoon — both in the second half.
Earning SOG for CSUSB were seniors
Paige Kang (two) and one from
Jessica Koch.
CSUSB goes on the road to begin CCAA play this week, playing at Humboldt State (Friday) and Sonoma State (Sunday).
