Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO (April 2, 2016) -- CSUSB came through with a four-run ninth inning and overcame a six-run deficit in its 10-9 victory over San Francisco State in the second game of a CCAA doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
SFSU won the opener 10-4.
CSUSB (15-16, 10-9 CCAA) and Gators (14-13, 8-9) conclude their three-game weekend series at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Game 1: SFSU 10, Coyotes 4
The Gators swiped five stolen bases and Chris Nicholson powered a pair of home runs in the victory.
SFSU chased Coyotes starter
Tyler Wells through five innings and led 5-1. The Gators produced five hits off Wells and grabbed the lead for good in their three-run second.
Nicholson led off the fourth with his first homer, and gained the other to cap SFSU's three-run ninth.
Ryan Rich,
Andrew Lopez,
Jake Caron and
William Ouellette all had two hits for CSUSB, which finished with 10 hits off four SFSU pitchers.
Game 2: Coyotes 10, SFSU 9
Trailing 9-2 entering the seventh, CSUSB picked apart at the lead over the final three innings.
In the seventh,
Ryan Rich came through on a single up the middle that scored
Jordan Simon, who led off wtih a triple to right center.
Ouellette led off the eight on a double to left, and pinch-hitter
Damion Edmonds singled through the left side and CSUSB trailed 9-4. Two batters later, Rich singled to center to score
Brian Lockey, who was hit by a pitch.
Andrew Lopez capped the inning on the fourth hit of the frame with a single to center that brought in Edmonds.
The ninth belonged to CSUSB against Gators reliever Brett Montgomery. Caron doubled to right and Ouellette followed with a single up the middle. One out later, Lockey laced a two-run single through the left side and the Coyotes were down 9-8.
Edmonds laid down a bunt to set up Simon, who earned the game-winner with a two-run double to left that brought out a CSUSB bench mob at second.
Rich and Simon each had three hits, while Nicholson and Myles each homered for SFSU.
RHP
Noah Simon (2-0) earned the victory in four innings of relief. He gave up just two hits and one run with a strikeout.
