Austin ties 3-point school record

SAN BERNARDINO (Feb. 12, 2016) – A back-and-forth game quickly turned in favor of the Coyotes when their seniors stepped up late.

CSUSB utilized a stellar 15-0 run in the fourth quarter and set season-highs in points and field goal percentage in a 77-61 win over Stanislaus State at Coussoulis Arena on Friday night.

Seniors Alexcia Mack (23) and Chelsea Austin (21) led the way for CSUSB (11-10, 8-8 CCAA), which snapped its five-game losing streak. Fellow seniors Brianna Harden (12 points and 11 rebounds) and Chelsea Barnes (10) also hit double figures on a night CSUSB shot 53.6 percent from the field.

The tide turned in favor of CSUSB after the Warriors' Cassidy Sanders-Curry buried a 3-pointer that put her team ahead 60-59 with 7:47 left. After that lead, the night belonged to the Coyotes. Mack triggered the run with a jumper and Barnes and Harden added with baskets inside. Austin hit her seventh three of the night and the Coyotes led by 10, 69-59 with 4:11 left.

Harden then added two jumpers and a Mack layup gave the Coyotes their 15-0 run and a 75-59 lead with 1:47 left.

Austin broke out of a season-long outside shooting slump with an impressive night. She hit three 3s in a 2 ½-minute stretch late in the second quarter that helped the Coyotes to a 34-30 halftime lead.

Her seven 3s tied the school record held by Krystal Urzua vs. Biola on Dec. 19, 2009. She also pulled down eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Mack moved into fifth place on the Coyotes' career scoring mark. She now has 1,197 points and she broke through the 300-career assist mark with seven on the night for 303 in her career.

Harden's double-double was her 15th of her career.

Stanislaus State (14-7, 10-5) was led by Reana Hardin with 20.

The Coyotes return to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday against Chico State.
