SAN MARCOS (Nov. 30, 2016) — The Coyotes fed off their defense Wednesday night in their 69-66 victory over host Cal State San Marcos in CSUSB's CCAA opener.
Mya Johnson led her team with 13 points and
Casie Johnson followed with 11 as CSUSB stretched its winning streak to three and improved to 4-1 overall.
CSUSB scored 22 points off CSUSM's 20 turnovers and pulled away in the fourth quarter in a tight game that featured 10 ties and eight lead changes.
Mya Johnson pushed CSUSB ahead 65-59 on a layup with 4:55 remaining in the game and it led by five with 3:38 left. The Coyotes didn't score another field goal the rest of the way, but the Cougars didn't help themselves either by hitting just 1 of 7 down the stretch.

Genaya Wilkinson gave coach
Susan Crebbin's crew a big lift with eight points on 4-of-4 shooting, a team-high nine rebounds in 17 minutes.
CSUSB finished 26 of 69 from the field (37.7 percent) and eight Coyotes scored six points or more for a balanced night.
Norissa Sanders and
Courtney Coleman each scored eight with
Leelee Owens and
Ashley Carson putting in seven each.
Sabrea Coleman had six.
In addition to its edge in scoring off turnovers, the Coyotes forced more turnovers (20) than field goals (19) for CSUSM.
The Cougars (3-2, 1-1) were led by Ashley Jenkins' game-high 20 points.
CSUSB remains on the road this week when it plays at Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
