LOS ANGELES (December 18, 2015) -- Friday night belonged to senior
Alexcia Mack, who set a pair of milestones in the Coyotes' 74-64 win over host Cal State L.A. in CCAA women's play.
Mack scored a career-high 25 points and became the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career points in a much-needed conference win over the Golden Eagles. CSUSB snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA heading into Saturday night's contest at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
CSULA dropped to 3-6, 1-2.
The Coyotes pulled away from the Golden Eagles with a critical 10-1 run midway through the third quarter. Mack got the run going with a 3-pointer that put the Coyotes ahead 40-38 with 5:28 remaining, and fellow senior
Chelsea Barnes added a jumper and a free throw.
After a CSULA free throws, senior
Adriana Brodie sank two free throws and Briannna Harden added a layup to give CSUSB a 47-39 lead with 3:22 left.
The Coyotes were never threatened again and built the lead to as many as 13 points late in the fourth quarter.
Mack hit 7 of 11 from the field with two 3-pointers. She also was solid from the line, hitting 9 of 10 free throws in 35 minutes.
Barnes followed with 15 points and six rebounds with a game-high three assists. Brodie was the only other Coyote in double figures wtih 10.
CSUSB hit 50 percent from the floor in the second half (12 of 24) and finished 46.9 percent.
Bree Parsons and Rikke Fabricus led the Golden Eagles with 13 points each.
Mack now has 1,020 points in her career.
