SAN BERNARDINO (Jan. 17, 2015) -- Jacob Thomas has led the Coyotes in scoring in each of the last seven games, but he added another achievement in Saturday's 81-63 victory over Cal State East Bay in CCAA basketball at Coussoulis Arena.
Thomas earned his first double-double of the year with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Coyotes enjoyed double-digit leads throughout the second half and improved to 6-7 overall and 6-4 CCAA.
Thomas led four Coyotes in double figures. He was joined by Tevin Harris's career-high 15, Isaiah Morton with 12 and Everett Turner 10. All told, 10 Coyotes scored against the Pioneers (4-12, 2-8).
Both teams scored 21 field goals and the Pioneers were one of the few this season to outscore the Coyotes at the 3-point stripe, 21-15. This night, however, was aided by the Coyotes outscoring the Pioneers 34-14 at the line.
The Coyotes pulled their first 10-point lead of the night with 6:22 left in the first half on an 11-2 run with Harris contributing two 3-point plays and CSUSB up 30-19.
The teams went into halftime with CSUSB leading 38-30 and Taylor Statham's layup in the first minute of the second half gave the Coyotes a double-digit lead for good for the remainder of the game.
They led by as many as 22 when Thomas hit two free throws that advanced the lead to 71-49 with 5:33 left.
Thomas finished 5 of 10 with one 3-pointer and perfect in eight attempts at the line. Eight of his 10 rebounds were on the defensive end. He also had two steals.
Nine of Harris's points were from the line and he had six rebounds. Turner led the Coyotes with five assists and three steals.
Senior Gilbert Parga had nine points off the bench and Casey Oldemoppen had eight points with four rebounds.
Juawnn Springfield led CSUEB with 18 points.
The Coyotes complete the first half of conference play this week with road games at UC San Diego (Friday) and Cal Poly Pomona (Saturday).
