Box Score
CHICO -- Senior Jordan Burris led No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino with 31 points, but the Coyotes were dealt an 86-82 overtime loss to host Chico State on Saturday night.
The Coyotes (17-3 overall and 14-2 CCAA) held a 70-65 lead after a pair of Jordan Burris free throws with 3:11 left in the game, but didn't score again and Chico State forged a tie when Amir Carraway hit three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt by Kirby Gardner with 11 seconds left.
In overtime, Chico State gained a five-point lead (75-70) on a 3-pointer from Carraway and a layup from Jordan Semple.
The closest the Coyotes could get in OT was 77-76 on a Burris 3-pointer with 2:33 remaining, but could not close the distance -- drawing within two points on three separate occasions down the stretch.
Poor free throw shooting also cost the Coyotes. After hitting on all four attempts in the first half, CSUSB shot just 12-of-21 in the second half and in overtime.
Burris' 31 points were the most scored by a Coyote in five seasons. Not since Brandon Brown's 34 against Cal State Monterey Bay on March 7, 2009.
CSUSB went the final 7:28 without a field goal and attempted only five shots in that pivotal stretch.
The Coyotes return to Northern California on Friday at Cal State East Bay.
Carraway led the Wildcats (15-5, 11-5) with 22 points. Jordan Semple had 21 and Rashad Parker 20.
