Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – An eight-run, 13 player at-bat third inning made all the difference in the Coyotes' 8-5 loss to Cal State East Bay on a gorgeous winter Friday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
The Coyotes (0-6 overall and 0-1 CCAA) and Pioneers resume their four-game series with Saturday's doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
William Ouellette gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left in the first inning and it appeared CSUSB was off and running.
But the Pioneers scored eight runs – all earned – on eight hits off Coyotes' starter
Kerry Kelley and that was the decisive factor.
Aaron Beckley added an RBI-single in the fourth and later a two-out, run-scoring triple that cut the deficit to 8-3 in the sixth.
Ouellette ripped another solo home run – this one in the ninth – and two batters later, pinch-hitter
Richard Mount sent a shot to left-center for a home run that made the final difference.
Ouellette finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and Beckley was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Aaron Owen also had two hits for the Coyotes, who outhit CSUEB, 15-13.
Reliver
Doug Druckenmiller came on in relief in the third. He threw shutout out for 3 2/3 innings and allowed only three hits. Freshman reliever
Tyler Wells pitched three innings and had two strikeouts with one walk and gave up no runs and just two hits.
Ellis Stephney led the Pioneers (4-1, 1-0) with three hits. Eren Miravalles had two RBI.
