Box Score SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 06, 2014) -- A slow start hurt the Coyotes' cause Saturday night in their 68-53 loss to San Francisco State in CCAA men's basketball.
Senior Gilbert Parga led the Coyotes (2-3, 2-2 CCAA) with 17 points and sophomore Everett Turner added 11. Isaiah Morton had nine and Taylor Statham eight for CSUSB.
The Coyotes scored just six field goals in the first half and trailed 34-19 at the break with just four players scoring in the first 20 minutes of play. The second half was much better as they shot 54.2 percent from the floor (13 of 24) with eight 3-pointers. They finished the night with a season-high 11 3's.
San Francisco State (4-2, 2-0) dominated with its inside game. The Gators accounted for 44 of their points in the paint with Udun Osakue scoring a game-high 24 points. Derrick Brown followed with 16.
The Coyotes got inside 10 points once in the second half when Statham scored inside to pull CSUSB to 45-37 with 11:19 left. But SFSU answered right back with 10 straight points and the Coyotes could not close the gap.
CSUSB is off next week for fall finals and returns to the court Dec. 18-19 at the South Pointe Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. It will face nationally-ranked Drury (Mo.) and West Region foe Western Washington.
