SAN BERNARDINO (Nov. 15, 2014) -- No. 22 Cal State San Bernardino stretched its 20-win seasons streak to 17 straight years with a 3-1 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Senior Night on Saturday.
Junior OH Alexandra Torline led the Coyotes with 19 kills and senior All-American MB Tori May had a 10-kill, .588 attack percentage in the 25-15, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19 victory. It puts the Coyotes at 20-6 overall, 17-5 CCAA and they now await the NCAA Tournament annoucement. CSUSB should receive its 15th straight tournament berth when the 8-regional, 64-team tourney is announced.
Junior OH Ashley Solis joined Torline and May in double figures in kills with 13.
Torline had six kills in the opening set in which CSUSB gained control at 7-6 and stayed in control, thanks to a team .300 attack percentage.
Solis took her turn at the command in the second with five kills and Torline added four as CSUSB hit an impressive .353 and looked to be after a straight set victory.
But CSUDH did not go down easily as the Toros scored four straight points early, led 8-4 and remained in front when Morelia Brown's kill gave her team a 24-22 lead.
Brenna McIntosh earned a kill and setter Ciara Richards offered another kill and the set was tied.
But CSUDH got back-to-back kills from Alijah Gunsaulus and a fourth set was in motion. Both Solis and Torline had five kills apiece in the set.
The fourth belonged to CSUSB after the 10th tie of the set at 15-15.
An attack error by CSUDH, and kills from May and Solis gave CSUSB an 18-15 lead. Down the stretch, May and Torline each had two kills and the victory belonged to CSUSB on a kill from McIntosh.
Richards led with 43 assits and Torline led in aces with two.
ON the block, CSUSB totaled two solos (one each from Solis and McIntosh) and 10 block assists with May, Alyssa Heldreth and Brittney Paino each with two. Seniors Arielle McCullough (19) and Jordan Ortega (11) combined for 30 digs
CSUDH closed the season at 3-23, 2-20.
