Brian Goins scored a team-high 20 poinnts and
Joshua Gouch added 17 and
Kwame Alexander had 16 points with nine rebounds, but the Coyotes trailed the enitre second in their 80-73 CCAA Semifinal loss to Chico State at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The Coyotes are 19-8 overall and now await Sunday's NCAA Tournament announcement. CSUSB, ranked fifth in the most recent NCAA West Region poll, will find out if it makes the 64-team NCAA field.
The tourney field is scheduled to be announced Sunday evening at www.ncaasports.com.
The Coyotes saw their first-half lead evaporate when Chico State outscored CSUSB 9-3 and led 38-35 with 46 seconds left in the half.
The Coyotes appeared to work the clock for the final shot, but after
Juan Martinez' 3-pointer was blocked with four seconds to go, Chico State's Amir Carraway grabbed the rebound and attempted a 70-footer near the buzzer.
However,
Kwame Alexander was called for the foul, and Carraway hit all three free throws giving the Wildcats a 41-35 lead at the half.
Chico State shot 52.2 percent from the field in the second half and the Coyotes never got closer than three points.
Carraway led the Wildcats (19-9) with 25 points on 8-of-11 shots, 4-for-4 3-pointers and 5-of-5 from the line. Reserve Jordan Semple scored 21 points.
The Wildcats face CCAA regular-season champion Cal Poly Pomona in Saturday's title game. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. and the winner earns the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Johnny Bell had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
