SAN BERNARDINO – Senior David Silvas had a pair of RBI-singles, but the Coyotes fell short in the series finale against Cal State L.A., losing 5-2 after dropping a 14-2 opener in CCAA baseball Saturday.

The Coyotes, now 11-17 overall and 5-15 CCAA, head to league-leading Chico State this week for a four-game series that begins Friday night at 6 p.m.

Game 1: Cal State L.A. 14, Coyotes 2
Aaron Beckley had a double and a single and Billy Hamilton added a single, but the Coyotes stopped against CSULA's top pitching. The Golden Eagles' Jordan Cavazos and Adam Cabrales combined on a 3-hitter to shut down the Coyotes' bats.

CSULA's James Wharton had consecutive home runs and finished with four RBI and two hits in three at-bats.

Down 1-0, the Coyotes tied the game in their half of the first inning. Hamilton delivered a two-out single that scored Beckley, who led off with a single.

The Golden Eagles answered with a three-run third and led 4-1 before the Coyotes got their other run of the game – a sacrifice fly from Remington Miller that scored Beckley, who doubled.

Game 2:  Cal State L.A. 5, Coyotes 2
After CSULA grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first, the Coyotes came back to tie in the first on Silvas' single through the left side that scored Beckley, who reached on a hit by pitch.

Two innings later, Silvas gave the Coyotes their only lead of the series with a two-out single to right that scored Colton Johnson, who led off with single to left.

But CSULA scored four unanswered and secured the sweep over the Coyotes.

Johnson also had two hits in the second game and Tyler Staab accounted for the Coyotes' fifth hit.

Scott Masik and Jeremy Weber each had two RBI for the Golden Eagles.
